Gers (pronounced like gears) re the tents that Mongolians traditionally live in. They are circular and perfectly suited to nomadic life on plains and deserts with extreme ranges of temperature. Even though almost everyone in UB is no longer nomadic, they still have gers in their back garden. On Google maps, you can see this. Click here to see a zoom in to Ulan Bator and look at the residential areas on the outskirts of town. You’ll see little round things next to the houses. These are the gers.
