Nova Lesna

Since leaving Korea, we’ve paid for a total of two nights of accommodation. Not bad going for seven weeks on the road. One night was at Lake Baikal. The other night was at Nova Lesna. Both places were out of the way and both places were absolutely gorgeous.

Now, if you’ve been reading recently, you’ll know that we got here as a last resort having found the ski resort town of Stary Smokovich dead and expensive. Monica, a hotel receptionist, had recommended we get the little electric train a couple of stops down to Nova Lesna where, as the sun headed down, we found ourselves walking along a little path into the village with a couple of local women, one of whom was named Maria. Crossing the Polish/Slovak border

Well we’ve crossed a few borders on this trip but many of them we’ve simply sat on a train or a bus for. This was the first one that we made our way across by ourselves. We weren’t really sure how to do it so it was a challenge to succeed. It all started as we left Krakow and got a bus to the southern Polish mountain resort of Zakopane. Read the rest of this entry »
