A Rude Awakening

After wanting to stay and extra night in Sarajevo we woke up at 5ish on our final morning kind of wishing we hadn’t stayed at all. It wasn’t that we didn’t enjoy the city on our second day. We certainly did. But we had a bit of a bad experience with the people who ran the Sartour guesthouse and I don’t think we’ll be welcome back there again.

The Scars of Sarajevo

After Mostar, where we encountered the physical scars of the Balkan conflict in bricks and mortar, we first encountered the emotional and psychological scars as we hitched into Sarajevo. We had picked up our initial lift by some people selling cherries just outside Mostar. They were a Slovenian couple down here for a conference and were heading home. We got some tips on what to see in Ljubljana when we make it there and gorged ourselves on cherries until the town of Jablanica where they turned off. Read the rest of this entry »
