A Day in Buda

And so finally we were in Budapest, a city that we’d heard so much about and wanted to visit for a long time. And it was well worth it. We were being hosted by yet another couchsurfer. This time it was Janos who we’ll hear more about later.

On our first day here, we decided to walk through Buda. Budapest is really two cities: Buda lies to the west of the Danube and over on the east bank is the larger Pest. In the late 19th century the two cities merged as one and took on the name Budapest. It’s a little bit like Newcastle and Gateshead becoming Newhead or Gatescastle, or the more technically correct Newcastlegateshead. Read the rest of this entry »

Eger

This is a lovely little town and we would have loved to have more time to explore it. We had though, to get to Budapest that day. We had the morning though, and, we had Bandi’s girlfriend Rene (sorry but I don’t know how to spell her name so that might not be right) to show us around for a bit before she left for her university.
