On our way back from Korea to the UK, we passed through Greece as we travelled from Turkey northwards into Macedonia. We were stranded initially on the island of Samos just off the coast of Turkey. We hadn't reckoned on the public holiday that is May the 1st closing down ferry routes. But we were glad in the end. Samos was beautiful. The next day we caught the ferry to Athens, spent a few days couchsurfing with a crazy Greek guy, caught a train from hell overnight to Thessaloniki and hitched over the border through the countryside to Macedonia.
